"Would students be safer if they carried guns? Gun safety questions still linger four months after the VA Tech shootings (on April 17, 2007)".

Below is a segment of his commentary:

"As students at Virginia Tech prepare for a new school year, some believe they would be safer if they were legally allowed to carry guns along with members of the facutly and staff. It has been suggested that had just one student or faculty member had a gun, Cho could have been stopped before his total number of victims reached 62, thus saving perhaps dozens of lives. But others believe that the ensuing crossfire between Cho and armed students could have cost even more lives. They think our colleges and universities should be islands of learning in the sea of violence that seems to grip our nation on a weekly basis. I do not see this as a Second Amendment right to bear arms issue. I see it as a need and a safety issue. Do students really need to carry a gun on campus for personal protection?"

My point1: It is not an option and should not even be considered to put guns in the hands of the students

My point2: Simple Solution is more campus security (with guns and advanced restraining/apprehension skills).

My point3: When I read his comment all I can read is blah blah blah. Not worthy of reading.

While my husband and I are members of the NRA and we do hunt, I do NOT think by any stretch of the imagination that it is a wise thing to do to arm a bunch of college kids. Our boy's hunt with guns and with bows. They have done so since a very young age. They have gone to multiple gun and hunting safety courses and all our weapons are locked in an iron gun safe with a combination lock. Our boys have never been allowed to carry their guns at any time other than when they were going hunting and were not ever allowed to hunt without their Father, Uncles or Grandfather until after they were 18 years of age. Guns are not toys. I would feel safe in saying that probably less than 20% of the total pop of VA tech staff included would know how to properly use a gun or be a good enough shot to stop someone like Cho anyway. so, I agree with you the guy is an idiot.
