The simple fact is that peace is usually not achieved by wars.

Look back through history - world peace is an impossibility.

Besides, what the hell did we do to "deserve" 9/11? As for Iraq, why didn't the repeated violations of the cease-fires and treaties Iraq signed with us after the Gulf War give us enough right to go back? Or are treaties and cease-fires now as utterly useless as a UN Resolution?

Too many.Sadly I don't think pacifism is a realistic option or ever will be a realistic option in the future.Mankind is intelligent but not(yet?)intelligent enough to control his primitive animalistic urges. However that doesn't mean we couldn't do our very best to reduce wars and certainly avoid being lied into illegal wars like currently in Iraq.
That was a war of choice under a false pretext like most are BTW.Those could be stopped if people started thinking and stopped being consumers first over being citizens.

Well since there have been wars since the history of the world began, I suspect we have a few more years to go. The good news is that the day to day atrocities that were the norm in past centuries are getting fewer and fewer. So progress is being made.

You cannot bring peace through war, just as you cannot bring sobriety through alcohol. War is self perpetuating. Violence always and without fail leads to more violence.

Until we win. You cannot put a time frame on war. You go in with a strategy and adjust as needed.

As long as Man exists there will be conflict. As much as I'd like to see Mankind become like in Star Trek I don't see it ever happening.

Good question. Let's ask that to the peaceful people who are trying to eradicate us infidels from this world.

Humans did not design the Universe and we are not running it.

Since God has not made war impossible, the only possible answer has to be "Forever".

Even Al-Queda thinks so -- they're preparing to wage war for generations to get what they want [you and all your ilk in their shackles].

g'day
