Essentially everything you create belongs to you and cannot be used without permission, even if no date stamp were associated with it. Violation of this concept in most cases does constitute copyright violation whether the item(s) in question were formally copyrighted or not.
By the strictest definition, that includes everything you photograph, any music or lyrics you write, any computer program you write, and every phrase you come up with either verbal or written.
In practice, you would only gain through litigation if your creation were deemed of value.

time stamp means nothing to copyright. Items posted here are not copyrighted because it is not in fixed form. Chatting electronically is the same as chatting in person. for example i can edit my response anytime. if you wish to copyright your contributions you will need to write it out on paper, or burn to a CD the electronic version.

I always assumed that although you take responsibility for the content of your post on a forum...once posted in a forum it then belongs to that forum... and I'm also assuming that if you post something in the public domain you would also loose all rights to it unless you have previously copyrighted it.

good question, i would imagine that would be the case, but what you put in here may have been put somewhere else, by some one else, at an earlier time so, they could claim copyright in fringment, it that was the case
