You should never turn off a computer. Booting is the most stressful operation a computer can go through. It is best to leave them in Stand By or at least Hibernation. Turning of significantly lowers computer life. That goes double for laptops because they deal with allot of heat.

Rather than turning off my Mac I just put it to sleep. If you need to conserve battery turn it off. BTW, Mac OS X has a maintenance script that is set to run during the night, it will only run when the Mac is on. Turn it off when there is a lightening storm, best to unplug it from the wall socket.

Many laptops stay on for years. They're more reliable than the ones that are always shutting down and restarting. Your computer does more work rebooting than it does in a week of sitting there, not doing anything.

I'd suggest turning it off, since when it's on the screen is very bright.

It really doesn't matter.

Apple says, 4 days max (to save power) if your aren't using it.
