to make a really long story short, i lost my parents' digital camera. it was in my room while i was on vacation, and how we think it got lost is that my dad threw away a norstrom bag that was in my room, because he said there was trash in it, but i think the camera might've been in it. if not, i have no idea where it would be. i feel really really bad about it because im only 13, and theres no way i can replace it. my parents dont buy valuable electronics often, and the camera was REALLY nice and they used it all the time. what can i do to make it up to them or just get this guiltly feeling out of my stomach?

i am glad to see you take part of the blame for the mistake -- and it was nothing but an accident -- feel bad but get over with if -- in the meantime be extra helpful around th house and see about getting a paper route or some other means to make extra money and start to pay them back!!!

Awwww, you don't need to do anything. Are your parents so awful and abusive that they would beat you up or something for what happened?! If the answer is no, then stop panicking. You're only 13 and shouldn't be worrying about adult crap. And I don't think ANY of this is your fault. Your folks should take better care of their stuff..

Anyhoo, you can get a decent digi-camera for less than £100, and don't your parents have any kind of insurance? I wouldn't worry about this. Tell your dad if you must; that the camera may have been in the bag, but you're not sure. Or better still, don't tell LOL, and stop worrying. Sh*t happens :) This isn't your fault or your problem, so don't sweat it... If it makes you feel better; tell your dad, but if you don't *have* to, then don't...

First of all, it was an accident. Is there no way you can retrieve the bag again or has it gone the way of the trashmen? If so, there is nothing you can do but help pay for it through your allowance, or start doing neighbourhood jobs and buy them a new one. This could be mowing lawns, going grocery shopping for people, babysitting, etc.

Well, actually, it sounds like your dad was at least as responsible for its loss as you are, probably moreso. OK, it was an accident. But if he was throwing something away from your room, HE should have checked to be sure that there wasn't anything in it except trash.

Accidents happen. Don't beat yourself up over it.

It was an accident, but you can offer to help out to make some money to replace it.
