Well I don't know about gentlemen but I try to open doors before entering. Depends on my level of sobriety. Sometimes I just run into them.

I always have and always will...
You found the practiced heavily curtailed with the advent of the women's lib movement, and you never knew who was going to take offense at you holding the door for them.
I endured nasty looks, but my parents always taught me that it was just plain good manners to hold the door for someone else...
