I am a retail manager and I constantly run into middle aged male customers who think they are smarter than everyone even though most of them have blue collar jobs. They talk down to all the female cashiers. They always have a problem with the sale on something or the service and even though many times they are wrong as one could be wrong they act as though we unintelligent morons. I am a male in my mid 20's and sometimes I think it is because they resent that their youth is gone and they have to take it out on younger people.

It's a power thing. I've been a cashier in a grocery store in a retiment community. I'm 55.
People who feel that they have little power in and over their lives will want to use what little power they have to inflate their egos. They will bully and intimidate people who can't speak back (or lose their jobs).
People who feel that they are bossed by everyone else will try to be the big person if only for a little while.
Women and men of all ages are the ones I see doing this. However you are right in that men want to have power more because it's their 'role'. For men and women it's middle age where they have their realization that they are not the powerful person of their dreams.I pity the insecure people who have such bitterness.

Lol, I see exactly where you are coming from, and you make a valid point! Honestly, when men get to their 40's and 50's they feel that they have more wisdom then the average "young buck". Remember, men already suffer with a thing call "pride" LOL! You can very well be right that they resent the youth, but in addition I think that they feel that the older they are the wiser they are and they can talk down to anybody thats younger then them, because they feel like they lived a long enough life to experience things that the youth has not. It's kind of like when you become about 18 years of age and the way you start to look at children and the way they are! you get my drift?

not all as we talk human beings get married youthful. a brilliant variety of the as we talk buddies I quite have have been given married while they have been of their previous due 20s or 30s. And regularly occurring, the divorce fee between heterosexuals is over 50%, so maximum hetero couples do not stay jointly for 40 or 50 years besides, whether or not they get married youthful or wait till they are older. i think of frequently, a brilliant variety of adult men (of each sexual orientation) look to have exciting, play the sphere, and proceed to be loose while they are youthful, at a similar time as women persons, frequently (and that i understand i'm in all likelihood oversimplifying, right here) are greater apt to need to cool down. as we talk adult men date women persons, and ladies persons are lots greater in all likelihood to be those pushing for a dedication. at a similar time as 2 adult men relationship one yet another, OTOH, are possibly lots greater in all likelihood to stay away from dedication for as long as conceivable. And lesbians of course are stereotypically almost TOO rapid to commit and pass in jointly as we talk. (Jokes: What does a lesbian couple on their 2nd date? answer: hire a U-Haul. What does a gay male couple do on their 2nd date? answer: what's a 2nd date?) Having suggested all that, i understand various gay male and lesbian couples who've been jointly for some years. So it does happen.

Please don't put that label on ALL men in their 40's & 50's.
The men who do that stand out in your mind......and you overlook the ones who are polite and friendly.
However, to answer your question.....it's because the men who act like that grew up in a society where that's how things were. That's how they were raised and that's how society treated them.
It has nothing to do with being jealous of the 20 somethings.

Arrogance is not age specific. Your question proves that.
-A 40 something male.
RESPONSE - Have you ever heard of a typo? You just proved my point.
I fixed it. Are you a happy person now or do you want to continue to have a bug up your butt?
