I saw KIng cole and his trio before they broke up. Always liked "Sweet Lorraine". He was a terrific piano player before he seriously started singing.

Some of the music by Nat was OK, but I was pretty young when he was popular. The popular music during those days, the early fifties, was not too exciting; it was too 'mushy' and romantic, especially to a little boy. I remember when the first rock-n-roll songs came out. They were more fun and livelier than the slow dreamy music of earlier fifties. But that was the perspective of a young boy.
Those old songs of Nat King Cole are very nostalgic now, but I do remember Mona Lisa and Unforgettable - they were two of my oldest sister's favorites.

I adore "Nature Boy" and "A blossom fell"
and also one that he did about called " Our love Affair/or "An Affair to Remember" from the 1950s version of An Affair to Remember. It was on a recording and not in the movie.

Good memories from that last song. I me a boy on a train and we wrote to each other for a long time. I was only 15 and I fell in love with him. Have seen him a few times since but either he was married and I wasn't or the other way around. Such a sad but beautiful memory. His name was Powell and I will never forget him.

P.S. Goldwing, I did not know you had stated that song too. It is great. The ending verse was "The greatest gift you'll ever learn, is to love and be loved in return." I get chills.

He had a particularly good take on almost all songs he sang...I remember his debut on TV...very early 50's, singing Mona Lisa. His albums became standards, and he did his share of covers in this area...but the best was, by far, Funny Valentine, and (whatever the name of the song) "there was a boy, a very strange, enchanted boy......" I was one of the few who did not find his "duet" with Natalie particularly good.
