sean thats the number i got beforei realized that i can't be right, because that number is just too large.

keep in mind that there are more than 6 billion people in the world, and the world itself in only 12,600 kilometers around, it's the non linearity of it that makes th math a little tricky,

Anybody know the formula for finding an answer?

Surface Area of the Earth: 510,065,600 km2
Land Surface Area: 150,000,000 sq km, 57,500,000 sq mi.
(according to google)

Finding surface area of a sphere:
For a sphere you would simply substitute L&W for C&D
If you need to find the diameter:

Circumference = 2pi*Radius
Diameter = 2*Radius

The surface area is C*D or 2pi*Radius^2

But the earth is not a perfect sphere, its shaped more like a football. It just appears round in space because of the atmosphere.

6,000,000,000 squares (using US, not British definition of billion) can be placed 60,000 by 100,000 rectangle. In kilometers, that's 60km by 100km.

For a square, it's sqrt60 *10,000m or sqrt15* 200km - it doesn't work out to whole numbers

divide 1600mm by 1000 to change it to meters. This is 1.6 meters. 1.6 X 1000 = 1600 square meters.

6 million kilometers long and wide.

It does matter if it is a rectangle or square. If it was a rectangle, it would be impossible to know how wide/long it
was, because they would be different lengths.

3728227.153 miles long/wide.

6bn means 6,000,000,000
in that grid 6, 000,000,000 squares will come
area of that grid is 6,000,000,000
lenth and bredth may be
100,000m and 60,000m
so is 100km by 60km
