I am a Political Science major with a minor in International relations. i had a paper to do for a class and my topic was Darfur...I went to the library and there was not one single book talking about Darfur, the books found were of Rwanda, Ethopia and Bosnia....do you see a pattern? they were talking/analyzing about past ethnic clensing. you see we are a society where if it happens now somehow it will resolve itself out, but when it escalates to a point then we can become their heroes and write interesting books on why it happened and what we did to help....Sir, this is the sad truth of life. I also study national security and beleive me it backs my idea that if we have no foreign interests, it's not of interests at all. saving like should be an international interest based on International law and reinforced by the General Assembly. The US is scared to act through the Un because like it or not the troops, the muscle of the UN is 75% US. so if there were to be intervention without invitation, it will mostly be US troups.
I joined Amnesty International but that is not enough...I can honestly say that I feel helpless....I'm here on my laptop and my comfy bed, while people in darfur are geting raped and murdered, starving and dying....do you think i can sleep at night? why do you think i suffer from insomnia?
This is my state of hell, right here...

It's DARFUR.
Our school is very supportive of them.
We have charities, do volunteer works, and all the other good things to collect money and send it over to them every year! We send around $3000 annually.
Most people dont even know what the situation is like in Darfur. Infact dont even know that it exists. Before people start to help them, I think we should help the American people to educate themselves about the country and that they need a helping hands.

And what would you have us do? Nuke the whole place and wipe out everything? That would stop the killing, if there's nothng left to kill.
WW2 is completely different from Danfur. First, Hilter was going around invading countries for their land. Killing jews was just a byproduct because they couldn't afford to feed them all. People in Danfur aren't aware they are crossing borders and they don't care anyway.
Second, Germany had a centralized government. When you take out the government, the war stopped.
There is no central authority in Danfur and even if you take out one guy, three more will suddenly feel the need to "avenge his death".
So, what should we doing?

What happened in southern sudan was much worse than what's happening in darfur (2 million christians and animists were killed, displaced, or enslaved by the sudani arabs as opposed to the 80,000 darfuris, that barely even made the news), and of course rwanda and cambodia were also much worse. Seems the world doesn't have the stomach for stopping these things.
