I have never understood why she is so popular. While I understand that she does do many positive things by contributing to African nations and girls, I don't get why people treat her like a God or like she can do no wrong.
I personally have nothing against her but I just don't think she's all that. Plus, she has a lot of money available to her so it would be kind of selfish of her not to share some of it with others. I mean come on, she's a multi-billionaire!
However, she really doesn't seem to contribute financially very much to the U.S. culture but rather to African nations where the citizens of the U.S. really don't benefit from that. Not to mention that the topics of her show are not really all that great. They seem to be more self-interest and personal benefit. A good example of this is the Tom Cruise sofa-jumping incident. Initially, Oprah was 100% behind Cruise, was laughing about it on her show, and didn't correct him. However, once people began to criticize Cruise Oprah began to say that she was disguted by Tom's behavior which I doubt she would have said otherwise. The same is true for James Frey the author of "A Million Little Pieces." Oprah was in his corner after the scandal until her friends, viewers, and others including Dr. Phil began to question her judgment about it. Then she retracted her statement and had James on the show a second time to save her reputation. Very self-serving.
Therefore, if I had to make a guess as to why Oprah is so popular I believe it's because she was the first true female talk show host that the majority of women embraced, which helped to boost her over-blown popularity.
Nevertheless, Chali below stated that Oprah has issues with white women which I disagree. I think Oprah has issues with people that have an attitude of entitlement and who are arrogant and so do I. I don't blame Oprah for that and I disagree that at her level she should get over it. No one appreciates being disrespected or sleighted for their race or other factors they cannot change.
Regardless, I still don't understand the Oprah cult following phenomenon.

I used to be very impressed with Oprah and liked her a lot. I still like her and I appreciate the good work she does, but sometimes she seems like she has issues with white women which, although I can understand to a degree, is kind of wrong at her level. I think she should work to get past it. She also seems a little more self-serving as time goes on. She still does a lot of good but it feeds her ego quite well too. That's obvious. So, I guess I would say, I like her but have a couple of concerns about her.

i'm not a hater. i think of her intentions are good. some issues she has performed has benifited extra advantageous than merely herself, actually. So what she has a opt for crowd it particularly is in her objective audience yet she televises it for the worldwide to work out and take benifit from. Why are we continuously searching for the undesirable in people, rather of what's nice and what's nice. some issues she comes to a decision to do is to coach herself besides, if she is questioning of turning right into a mom I specific she must be the superb discern that her and her money grants. Come on, people isn't there some thing somebody can say good approximately her efforts to coach herself to be who she is. she has even share her very own existence tale with the worldwide. No, she's no saint yet supply her props for being a being concerned person. Or is it reason she is black and useful.

I like Oprah, she's using her money for something useful (like helping the world to become a better place), but sometimes she seems a little bit racist, but I like her though and I also like her show.

Though I don't care for some of the shows she airs I will have to say that I believe she is a great ambassador for what goodness and love stands for.

I do not like her. I congratulate her for everything she has
accomplished and all on her own. But she is patting herself
on the back for what she does for people. She is like so
many of the other celebrities.
