What you need from a visa standpoint must be determined by the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security

This site will give you the visa information for travel in excess of 90 days, and how to apply for waivers/extensions if they do not give you adequate time on you entry forms.

As far as money, this is so dependent on what lifestyle and entertainment you plan for your trip. Insurance and fuel cost for a motorhome are very high. ALso your food cost will vary depending on whether you plan on eating all meals in the motorhome some or most of your meals in restaurants and what level of restaurants.

Its funny when I made $20,000 per year I could live eat and entertain myself on it. Now I guess my entertainment taste have changed cause I have trouble keeping up at $130,000 per year.

Everyone has their own level of expense and comfort.

In a 3 week period this year I went from sleeping in a basement at one friend's house while travelling, staying in an unairconditioned room in an old farmhouse next, then the following week I ate every meal at fine restaurants, traveled in limos and stayed at a 5* resort. It just depends on what you want and are willing to pay.

Also what you can afford often dictates a lot about your trip.

Are you a citizen of the U.K./ If so, you need to contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or consulate and get visa application info from them. you will have an interview as part of that process and can ask about how to extend your visa to cover one year. you could come as a tourist under the visa waiver program for 90 days, but you CANNOT get an extension under that program. However, with a tourist visa , i believe you can. Contact the embassy and talk to them.

Sounds like you will need a Tourist Visa, you'll need to check if you can get one for a year.
