Hurricane names are assigned from lists created by an international committee of the World Meteorological Organization. The original name lists featured only women's names, but In 1979 men's names were introduced and they alternate with the women's names. Six lists are used in rotation.
Here are the lists at the National Hurricane Center's web site:

They alternate boy/girl one year then girl/boy the next. All the names are decided on years in advance. The National Hurricane Center has all the names for the next few years.. as well as those Retired.. for example there will never be another Camille, Andrew or Katrina.. along with many others as they caused so much Death and Destruction.. so as not to bring back bad memories to those who lost Loved Ones or Property when they occured.

It used to be that all hurricanes were given women's names. Now they alternate down the alphabet.
The names are chosen alphabetically pretty much at random from a variety of sources which probably include a baby name book.

Every year, each major Atlantic storm system is given a name starting with successive letters of the alphabet. For instance, Andrew was the first storm that year, while Katrina was the eleventh of its year. So as not to be sexist, the names alternate between boys' and girls' each year.

My teacher said that most hurricanes are named after females because females are like hurricanes(we don't have hurricanes, storms and typhoons instead) when they get mad.
