I think he was sociopathic, to the extent that he so objectified human beings that he could do anything imaginable to them, like other famous sociopaths such as Dahmer, Gacy and Manson.

I think that's too easy of an answer.
Most people would like to say so, or to label him evil or sociapathic or some such thing, but labels like that exist primarily to argue that he is fundamentally different than the rest of humanity. In other words, people want to call him mentally ill because they want to believe they themselves do not have the capacity for such horrible actions. And sadly, I think history has proven time and again that each of us does have that capacity.
The most fascinating piece I've ever read on this is a psychological experiment done by Stanley Milgram called "The Perils of Obedience." Check it out -- it's long, but famously worth the read.

I think he was just REALLY evil. I'm not sure if that qualifies as a bona fide mental illness, like depression, or schizophrenia. Can you treat someone for villany?
No, I don't think he was mentally ill.

Mangele was a sociopath/psychopath he felt no remorse for the atrocities he committed on the inmates of Auswich.
In the name of his type of medical experimentation, he horribly mutilated thousands of men, women, and innocent children.
He was the sickest of the sick.

I have trouble believing that someone who did the things that he did could be sane. Saying "I was only following orders" will only get you so far.

No. He was simply a scientist who had no social constraints on him. They would almost all be like him if we did not impose the moral constraints we do on them.

Probably a psychopath (not sociopath), as were many of the other Nazis.
