Hello there.
I'm a 19 year old and I'm deeply frustrated because I keep making mistakes with my work. I make some at home but its easier to keep them hidden and only affect me anyway. Often I become nervous with certain questions I should if not do know and can't think of an answer.
The main problem is I have a good memory in one respect, but in another I forgot something important or do and say the wrong thing and get in trouble. Its like this at my work, I got sacked from my old job as I'd keep forgetting simple things and now at risk of being sacked from this one.
I may just be completely incompetent, or simply due to such an extremely low self-confidence of myself. I don't enjoy being like this, and it makes me despair because how can I possibly keep down a job if this continues?
If anyone can offer me any advice I'd greatly appreciate it, or any jobs this sort of thing wouldn't be a problem? I usually use computers and am used to an office environment.
Thanks.

One very good thing is that you actually care about this problem. I manage people and one of the things that drive me nuts are people who just don't seem to care about how they do at work.
One suggestion would be to write down as much as you can in order to refer to it when you care forgetting something.
Another would be to talk to your boss and bring up the point that it bugs you when you forget things or are not working up to the level you would like to. Ask for help. It impresses me when a employee asks what they can do to help be better employees.

It seems like your to self critical for your own good.
This may also sound ridiculous but watch a few "Rocky Movies" forget "Rocky" is a prize fighter and view it like he's an individual struggling for the things everyone wants. In Rocky I he's an over the hill boxer that no one respects before he has the "Big Fight" with Apollo Creed.
Can someone mentor you at work ? 19,
I'm 54 you are very young to me. I was very depressed at age 19.
Are you organized ? These simple things you keep forgetting could you use post-it notes or have a cheat sheet with the answers you need ?
How are your time management skills ?
Consider this analogy the crew that prepares a jet for a mission has to thoroughly have everything prepared. Check lists are employed to make sure nothing is left unaccounted for. The crew has to follow the check lists them.
I work as a CAD drafter and I have to write procedures down, for me. Some people don't have to make the effort I do, so what!
I don't understand what you meant by say the wrong thing.

You need time to re-group !
I have the feeling that you are trying to do too many things in a day and this gets you overwhelmed and then you forget things that are important to do.
#1 Have a good breakfast before you leave for work
#2 leave all your problems behind when you go to work
#3 Think positive
#4 Smile
#5 write things down on a list this way you will remember
# 6 Relax
#7 and now you are ready to work!
Chin up and have a wonderful weekend!

wow. people make mistakes. i think maybe you're too concerned and worried about making mistakes that you miss things and make mistakes. focus on what you're doing. don't worry so much about that kind of thing. it sounds like you're a little down on yourself, your esteem could probably use some work, you're a little perfectionistic. really... i do know what you mean, bosses can seem like they expect you to not make any mistakes at all. as long as you don't lose the company 30 mill, i can't see your manager having a heart attack over something you did. how you're handling the fact that you make mistakes is probably more important than not making them. your boss wants to see that you can grow from your mistakes and not make them again, that you can roll with the punches and that you are focused positively on your job.

Dear Chris W,
We human beings are creation and agent of God to administer the earth.
We mankind will always making mistakes.
My advise; all things done is to be check and recheck plus proof reading and double checking to 'Zero mistakes'.
We mankind will never and never get away from absent minded until death. We live and die. Not permanent from generation to generation til world/earth ended.
"ABSENT MINDED" is part of our life. There's no cure to it, because we are human being.

find a job that you're genuinely interested in. things get monotonous in office environments. maybe you're supposed to be in the field, in a fast-paced environment where the bottom line is getting the work done, not whether you can memorize where the staplers are kept..how many copies to print..
