I have been seeing videos of recent movies and downloading torrent files, and suddenly i got a notice from my IPS provider that
I am infringing someones copyright. how do I know if something is under copyright unless mentioned somewhere !?

The video is under DRM protection.

If it's anything recent or popular, you can pretty much bet that it's protected by copyright. The only things that are free explicitly say that they are free, or are very old. I forgot what copyrights are expiring this year, but I think they're from about 90 years ago. Here is a site that has torrents of free music:
