Everyone J-walks in our town. There are signs up all over downtown that pedestrians have the right of way and cars have to stop, no matter wherever a person is waiting to cross.

Being an avid driver, I prefer people to cross at designated crosswalks. That way I don't have as much of a chance of running over them. It is difficult enough to drive safely in crowded city areas. It puts an added burden on drivers to have people popping out between vehicles and other 'blind' spots.
On the other hand, as a pedestrian, I often 'take the shortcut' if I can do so without endangering myself or interferring with traffic.
But, in no case will I recommend or suggest that anyone break the law.

I would like to ban all crosswalks and find the person (probably a liberal or other nincompoop) who devised them and drag him through the cactus.
When I was growing up it was: LOOK BOTH WAYS BEFORE YOU CROSS THE STREET. This was drilled into the mind of every child, adolescent and adult.
Now, they have the "crosswalk" system, where people don't think they have to be aware or responsible, and many get killed as a result.
