Hi,
If you really do have a talent for art- I would take a semester once at a time. I like art to it is really relaxing and not that tough unless you are trying to be like the famous artist in the world. Then you will need to be working a little harder! Go try for it.

It's like anything else if one doesn't do it because they love it. If your good at what you do, there is money to be made but if someone is messing with it, and not passionate about it, then they won't go far.

They won't go far not because maybe they are not good but because they don't understand the foundation of what it is to be an artists. It is not a job for me but passion. It is hunger to paint everyday and I suppose, because of this, no matter what happens I will never stop and don't care a toss if hard time comes.

I don't care because it's what I WANT to do and because I am doing what I WANT to do, I succeed in life. Now, in this life, not a lot of people know what they want to do. To even focus on ONE thing is difficult for them. They can't decide or comitt.

But if someone knows this is what they want to do then they be smart. They will learn another skill while doing the art side and use the other skill of job to pay for their art until a break through happens.

Like art - you plan, you observe, you don't just dive in. You see, you feel, you watch and then draw and bring what you see or feel to life.

THat is the way it should be with life. Art isn't something that you draw but it is a way of life and when THAT HAPPENS then, let me say - the world is yours. You succeed.

But if it's, "Oh, if it gets hard then I will do something else" then that kind of person won't make it happen. Painting is not therapy for me. I am already at peace with myself and then painting is bonus, drawing is bonus.

That's how it should be. First you are at peace with yourself by knowing what you want to do, don't give a damn what others thing how hard it is and do it because you WANT and LOVE to do it.

So now, do you really love to do it? Is it really what you want to do? If you didn't paint for a day, will it hurt? It does for me. And that is why I am not just an artist. I am art, it's in me.

I hope it is in you because when it is hard, then you will fight for your art, and not stop no matter what. Is that what you feel? If so, then go for it. If not, still go for it and enjoy the journey.

You don't have to make it a job. You can still do something else but also in evening when you have time, paint. So it because you love it and not because its going to be a job. When its just that feeling of a job, then it will die.

I have no real answer, but if this is really your passion, than follow through with it.
It is difficult to earn a living in the art field depending on which art you chose.
My son is an artist in his last year of college, and is pusuing cartooning,( his passion).
He has branched out into tattoo art, and commisions his work. He has done c.d covers for some up and coming bands, and has had his art displayed in some studios, and has taken 1st place twice at art shows.
He has come to realize that you really have to "pimp" yourself in the field, and it is very competitive, but brings him so much joy.
Try it, and see what happens. Again, if this is your " passion" than follow through, and best of luck :)

EDIT~ If this makes you feel better, his first art show,an art dealer from Manhatten purchased his winning oil painting.
I chased them down, and had to beg to buy it back.
The wife understood, but the husband was irate, because he knew he could jack the price up .

If you really love to draw, it isn't, keep drawing, carry paper & pencils wherever you go & draw everyday or whenever you go or get freetime you'll pick up, & get better, make it a habit, buy "how to draw" books & build a collection of them. don't give up, -I've been hooked on drawing since I was a kid & that's how I got my talent-(what's been hard for me is sending it out, getting it noticed & trying to do it professionally)-good luck.
