I read reviews, usually on the internet, sometims they're not by professional critics but they have no bearing on what I choose. I think movies are ultimately subjective and it's to each his own. In my humble opinion, if you really know what you like you have a keen sense of weather you'll like something even if you haven't seen it, based on what you see, though that will no always be accurate.
I watched movies that got one star and liked them. I've watched movies with 3 or more stars and disliked them and vice versa. There's really no monolithic idea of what a good movie is as each individual has their own preferences, and they're not always based on the basics such as acting, budget etc. Like or dislike will often take precedence over good or bad, moreso when a person isn't influenced by reviews, which are nothing more than opinions that are not any higher than the viewer's opinions, they're only Propagated.
"We give them their chance when we rely on too much on critics to make our choices for us. We give them ther power because the sheer speed of existence has rattled our already fragile confidence when it comes to things artistic. we think we need help sorting out artsy thigns, that somehow we don't have all the facts. But you know something? We don't need help! You like the Red Skelton painting, buy the Red Skelton painting. You like Home Improvement? Tape it and go over it like the Zapruder film. It's your life, go nuts! Enjoy the world on your own terms. Follow your heart and take what critics say with a fifty pound bag of salt." -Dennis Miller.

Were those 'bad reviews' wrote before the movie premiered? Do you base a lot of judgement on movie reviews? Kind of, because most of the movies i watch are intelligent movies, i may need to read a review to understand the movies deeper meaning, or how somebody else perceived it anyway. Because i pretty much have no education (on anything useful) i may need to read up because i likely missed certain elements of the plot which effect how i judge the movie. Do you get angry when you read reviews you really disagree with? Not really, people who waste their own time to write a bad review insulting the movie instead of explaining why it sucked are idiots not worth thinking about, If you wrote your own review how balanced would you try to make it? I would be shite at reviews for the same reason as my first answer. I actually think it's possible to write a decent-ish review for any movie. If you consider who the film is aimed at and pick out any redeeming features. Do you agree? Yes, it's good to find reviewers who you know will give a broad opinion on the movie rather than focusing on what they think. BQ: Natalie Portman is an actor, Mila Kunis is a celebrity. So it would be Kunis out. Wait i'm male aren't i? Portman is hotter. (Though at the moment i would jump at the opportunity of either.)

For some reason I tend to read movie reviews AFTER I have seen a movie, to see if I agree with what the reviewer has said.
Most of the time I agree. I look at all different websites myself.

I watch/ read movie reviews very carefully, but usually, I've made up my mind whether I'm gonna see a movie or not.
For me, the main 3 things which determine whether I see a movie or not are:
1) The type of movie it is (action, horror, drama, et c),
2) Who is in it, and
3) The previews / trailers. One other thing: the rating. For instance, I absolutely won't go see a horror movie with a rating of less than R.

Yes, because there is lots of movies, and you don't have time to see every. So, if there is some bad movies out there than best avoid it.
I personally prefer imdb.com, mainly looking for the points out of 10. If it is below 5 or something then best to avoid that movie.

well, movie reviews basickly say reviews or critics of other people. in my opinion, im the only one who can say if the movie is good or bad in the sence that we all have different styles, and a review that says that the movie is bad, may turn out good to me. =)

I never go by movie reviews unless it is my own and even them I doubt myself sometimes. Most reviewers are wrong more times than they are right and those that aren't wrong aren't well read.

I do sometimes-just to filter out the sub two star movies. I usually check msn.com, because they usually rate around what I think the movie earns anyway.

I usually see them after, usually IMDB.com, to see if other people like the movie or not. People can be real snobs when it comes to movies
