Waxing your car is good whereas polishing your car is not so good. Wax justs adds a protective layer to your cars bodywork to protect it from the elements, as polish removes or cuts (hence T-Cut) a layer of paint from your car. Polish should only be used a couple of times over the lifespan of the car as each time you use it you are removing paint as it is abrasive (only thin clear coats), also when you polish you may notice that your car has tiny scratches on it when seen in direct sunlight. Polish should only be used to remove scratches or other marks or to restore dull, oxidized paint. Wax on the other hand adds a protective barrier to your car and can be done as often as you want and should be done at least twice a year. You can tell when you need to wax your car as when rain falls on a car that needs waxing it tends to sheet and sit on the car, as when a car is waxed the rainwater just simply beads and runs away. A popular example of a polish is T-CUT.

Waxing is using wax applying and removing using a buffer or not.

Polishing uses abrasives, compounds, and polish to remove oxides, dirt, and a VERY small amount of material to get to a clean surface.

You would Polish first, to get a good surface, and then wax to protect the surface from dirt, oxidation, etc...

polishing is used to remove the top layer of oxidized paint, it is a fine talc that can be purchased in various grades depending on the type of finish it is to be used on.

most waxes contain polish, some don't and are wax only. waxing covers the paint with a thin skin, and prevents oxidation of the paint as well as preventing any foreign particles from reaching and chemically bonding with the paint.

The difference lies in the type of product used. A wax has, just as it implies, a wax in the product. I makes something shine. A polish shines and removes tarnish or oxidation in another manner.
