I placed a rose upon her hair
and placed my hand upon her knee
and as we breathed the summer air
she returned the rose to me

What exactly is the point. Rose is virginity? Summer of life?

I always thought that a rose was sort of a symbol for virginity. And summer meant they are in the summer of their lives. And he sort of de-flowered her.
Why hair and knee though?

Maybe the girl gave back the rose to stop him from ... kissing her.

You place a rose upon my hair
You place a hand on my knee
We breathe the summer air
I return the rose to you.

I don't like you. I gave back your flower, and I'm gonna get scared that you're crazy.

The man touched her knee which was inappropriate because it was a statement of his affection for her which she was rejecting because she didn't feel the same way. If she had felt the same way the touching on the knee would have been ok. But she did not return his affection. Therefore, she returned the rose. It was a genteel way of saying "NO."

I think it has to do with love. You give this love she takes this love and then you get the love back. It's great to be able to share things like the summer air with somebody that you love. Because they are together. Kind of like the more you give the more you recieve. I could be wrong though.

I believe what he's saying is that she returned the rose, but did not take away his hand, because she was telling him that she didn't need him to buy her things, she simply wanted "him"...she wanted to "share" being with him, being touched by him, and the rose was not important to her.

The poem is not that bad. Short but creative.
