You said you watched the play. Do you actually mean you watched the film? Topol did the show in London, then made the film in 1971, and then did the show on Broadway in the late 80s, but I don't think he's done it onstage in the U.S. or England since then.

Regardless, it's a classic show. I actually like it much better on stage -- the film is just far too long. I've done seven productions: Three as Tevye, three as Lazar Wolf, and one as Mendel the Rabbi's son back in my early days. Oh, and one more production, as music director/conductor.

The script is very tight, and of course the songs are magnificent. Oh, and the Jerome Robbins choreography is iconic. You might be interested to know that anyone who licenses the show for production is required to use 80% of Robbins' movement, and the rental materials include a HUGE book that details every movement for every beat of music.

My favorite scene to do or watch is The Dream -- it's just wacky fun. Incidentally, the drawback to playing Lazar Wolf is that traditionally Fruma Sarah is riding around on that actor's shoulders -- trust me, it can be scary to be stumbling around the stage not being able to see anything because you're essentially underneath her nightgown. Ah, the theatre!

I saw the movie years ago and I love the part where Topol and his wife sing the song "Twenty-five Years" then also where he has the graveyard dream with all the ghosts flying around.

"Sunrise Sunset" & the wedding songs. I love this movie better than 'The Sound of Music".

It's not a show but I think that was just a typo.

It is a play and a movie.

I saw it (movie) a few years ago and liked alot. It is great the local high school also did an excelent play version as well.
