I know no one has an IQ that high, but let's just say hypothetically, there is a human that has a 400 IQ. What do you think he or she be capable of doing?

Passing an IQ test with flying colors! Seriously, IQ is not really a valid construct. It predicts a person's ability on IQ tests, but doesn't correlate super well with other abilities. There are other ways of thinking about intelligence that are probably more accurate.

(It probably really isn't possible to get an IQ of 400 because there would probably be a ceiling effect of the test. IQ is normed so that the average IQ is 100 and the standard deviation is 15. That means a person with a 400 IQ has a score that is 20 standard deviations above the mean. This would be a unique individual indeed. The person with largest known IQ is Marilyn vos Savant, whose IQ is 228, 8.5 standard deviations above the mean. Check the Wikipedia article below for some information on ceiling effect in IQ testing.)

The average person today in this world actually scores an IQ of 100 and anyone considered to have an IQ higher then 200 is considered a Precious Genius but the maximum capacity of IQ for a human was reached by william james sidis and he had a recorded IQ of 250-300 but died from a cerebral hemorrhage because of how big and clear his mind must have been and the world number 1# today is Terrence Tao with an IQ of 225-230 so if William james sidis died from a cerebral hemorrhage from his own mind then there is no way the modern human could reach that IQ score. The human brain would need vast amouts of more space and oxyegen for the modern human to reach any kind of IQ score like that but as humans evolve like they have since 3 Million years ago then our brains will probably start to get condidtioned to start having IQs like that and soon completely jynxing William James Sidis and Terrence Tao in the future. in fact i think that in less than 100,000 years our brains will have the added mental capacity of a dolphin which could push the average IQ score up to 150 and i repeat that might just happen in less than 100,000 years!

He would be quite limited by his environment. Imagine living on the planet of the apes, but with actual apes, not semi intelligent ones. Humans are everywhere. He would constantly be miserable trying to explain things to people and them getting pissed, assuming he is wrong simply because he disagrees with him, being insulted at him constantly correcting them, etc. There are ways to adapt to it but only so much. He could try living independently of the apes (and probably would) but since the apes are EVERYWHERE it would be difficult. And it is difficult for people of 150 plus IQ. Especially if they are also nice because one of the best adaptations is to disregard "normal" people as peers and think of them as the moody irrational animals that they are.

From a more objective standpoint. I and a few other people I know have IQs over 150. All of us have occasion to do stupid things. In my opinion an IQ of 170 is only approaching "adequate" from an objective standpoint. Probably around 250 is adequate. By adequate I mean a person consistently and reliably thinks in a manner that avoids mistakes, takes full advantage of available information, and is either able to adapt and function in accordance with some objective truth or identify that there is inadequate information to do so. In other words an IQ of 100 is normal but anything under around 250 is sub-nominal.

Another perspective: my guess is that the person would behave at every moment as though they had been anticipating and researching that moment for years. Everything they did would be done with awe inspiring grace, efficiency, and effectiveness. They would nearly never fail as they would know exactly what they were and were not capable of and would circumvent situations where failure was unacceptable. There would be no "I should have thought of that," no "oops."

This person would be horrified by the general population. Probably a recluse.

I think with an IQ like that he would be totally OCD off of something. Life will truly suck for him because people with such high IQ is a disability rather than an ability.

Making a heck of a lot of money for one.....hahahaha..kidding.
Could likely give Stephen Hawking reason to talk until the dawn.....
You would think that such a person could almost "perform miracles". Perhaps they could on some level. But they would have to able to "sell" their ideas to the general population. The world would have to "collectively embrace" their intellect.
Humans just ain't ready for that I am afraid. We can not agree on anything.
Shoot. You are hard pressed to get us "Americans" to "disagree" on anything in any meaningful productive way.....jeeze...

wow.....things that normal people wouldnt be able to do.
stuff like think of HEAPS of prime numbers just in their head and maths stuff like that.
i also think they'd be able to read peoples emotions much clearer...you'd be able to tell what someone is thinking about you, just by looking at the expression of their face, movement of their body, position of their body etc.
you hear about geniuses going crazy cuz they're WAYYY too smart, and i think that a person with that high an IQ would get lonely...no one to really talk to. everyone you'd talk to would be ALOT less smarter than you, you'd have to talk dumb to them.

=D
