You raise a good point. Russia by itself is a potent power, during the last world war the most efficient fighting machine in the world only lost as they misread the power and determination of the Russians. Without fighting from an encircled position they would have annihilated the forces of us British even with the so called help of the Americans.
Don't think you need to elaborate on the Gung ho power as I think everyone knows that you are talking about the nation across the pond that can't seem to win any wars, probably kills nearly as many allies with "friendly fire" as enemy, but talks a good fight .
Yes, on balance I think it will be good to have two major powers again, so I suppose we will start having all the old rhetoric about "fighting the commies" from the states. And finally yes, I think they ought to reclaim their old lands, after all, a lot say they were better off under communism.
Just seen shaka comment above. Don't see too much difference between Pear Harbour and Iraq.. At least the Japanese "thought" am.erica had been told. But both acts were illegal and the latter one the yanks may have woken the sleeping giant of Islam!!

I think the problem that Putin has is that within his own borders he has a few different camps that he has to appease.
Along with others, the old KGB brigade are still pushing whoever is in charge of Russia not to let go of too many of their old ideals in the countries quest for glasnost.
I honestly believe that Russia does not have the cash to start any international problems. The show of aircraft flying long range missions is as much to impress the Chinese (their closest ally) as it is anyone else.
Much of Russia's war infrastructure was split up after the breakaway of various states and Russia itself is not rolling in cash.
Internal strife with a huge crime wave and a disaffected population probably lead Putin to believe that this show of strength to his own people will somehow give them hope of a brighter Russian future.
I am not saying that Russia is not a force to be reckoned with, clearly they carry some clout both militarily and politically.
The last few years have seen what appears to be the demise of the Russian empire with various states electing to breakaway, I think Puttin is just putting on a show to try to reverse the worlds view of how things are going in Russia.

They can try to claim countries that were once part of the USSR, but they really wouldn't get far without starting a full scale war. Anyway, they don't need any of them, they've got the north pole (or so they think). Another super power? frankly i'm getting a bit bored of them, with china becoming a super power, and now Russia. IT's a bit messed up, because all the so called "super" powers are really messed up countries (communist China, Russia claiming random bits of land, and firing missiles at the rest of us, and America, where society is, basically, messed up, with racial and economic inequality).

I wouldn't worry to much. All other countries around Russia never let go of their strategic powers and some even have continued flights like this so, Russia, as far as I'm concerned, has just received the money to start again.
I don't feel that about 15 planes constitute a great power either. Putin is just trying to stretch his own wings but, I'm sure if he steps outside his bounds, he'll get his feathers clipped.

All it will do as Admiral Yamamoto concluded following his attack on Peal Harbour - is to awaken a "sleeping giant" America + its allies.
No one in their senses will allow Russians fringe elements of their once dictatorial regime - to reimpose the cold war years.

i do no longer understand approximately an awakening undergo prophecy, yet some human beings think of this passage ought to be pointing to Russia. Ezekiel 38:2 "Son of guy, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 3 and say, 'for this reason says our lord god: "Behold, i'm against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. 4 i will turn you around, placed hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your military, horses, and horsemen, all wonderfully clothed, a great corporation with bucklers and shields, all of them dealing with swords. 5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya are with them, all of them with preserve and helmet; 6 Gomer and all its troops; the domicile of Togarmah from the some distance north and all its troops--many human beings are with you. 7 "prepare your self and be waiting, you and all your agencies that are accumulated approximately you; and be a safeguard for them. 8 After many days you would be visited. interior the latter years you will come into the land of those added back from the sword and accumulated from many human beings on the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate; they have been added out of the countries, and now all of them stay properly. 9 you will ascend, coming like a hurricane, masking the land like a cloud, you and all your troops and intensely some peoples with you." 10 'for this reason says our lord god: "On that day it shall come to pass that recommendations will arise on your recommendations, and you will make an evil plan: 11 you will say, 'i will pass up against a land of unwalled villages; i will pass to a non violent human beings, who stay properly, all of them living without partitions, and having neither bars nor gates' 12 to take plunder and to take booty, to stretch out your hand against the waste places that are back inhabited, and against a human beings accumulated from the countries, who've gained farm animals and products, who stay interior the midst of the land.
