Independent or main screen movies do apply. Mines is Ray, even though it is a biography based movie. Most African American films are comedy and entertainment that don't teach values. Disappointing but true...

i pick the one movie that didnt get the glory it deserved

"The Hurricane"

Denzel Washington plays Rubin Hurrican Carter, a man who never got a chance in life. He grew up in a racialy based city, put in jail for something he didnt do.

from that moment on, the same detective who put him in jail the first time would haunt him every min of his life.

As he tries to become a boxer (nearly champion) the worst thing happens. Two guys attack a white bar, killing 4 people. They just happen to drive the same car as Rubin, and when he is pulled over that same night, two guys who witnessed the attack are talked into blaming him for it.

He's sent to prison for life along with a guy who onyl reason he was riding with Rubin was because they had been at a bar and left together, rubin giving him a lift home.
Both were sentenced to life.

Rubin Spends the next 30 years in prison, and the world begins to forget him. He writes a book, which a kid who is a nobody, picks up one day (just because he wanted to learn how to read), and begins to want to find the truth.

this kid and the people teaching him school, work together and turn the truth against the detective and the men who helped put rubin in prison.

after some 30 years he's finally freed.

In 1990 or so he was given a special accomedation from the Boxing association a Middle Weight championship belt, not because he won it, but because he fought for 30 years for justice.

I always felt this was one of the best movies i have ever seen.

I liked Ray too, but I guess I would go with Soul Food because I'm super sleepy and can't really think of any other movies right now. Oh yeah, and how could I forget the Color Purple, I watch it every time it comes on tv, that was a dope movie.

Rosewood It is not even close to being my fave movie. But I think it does show what African Americans like. It is mostly based on true events in a town in Florida. I think every one White or Black should watch it. We could all learn some thing from it.

i would say dreamgirls. not only is it entertaining, but it explains a lot about how the early music business exploited black artists. beyonce's character was chosen as the lead of the group because she was the least "black" of the girls.

I also really liked Idlewild. It was just a different sort of period film with a very creative feel. I liked the music a lot.

Shallow as this may seem, I loved "The body guard". OK I'm gonna get all kinds of BS, but it was really about unconditional love even though it crossed race boundaries. Anyone who would take a bullet for someone in the name of love, has to be in the ranking.
