Yes, but it is not a simple matter of just changing the name on the marriage license. Here is a link to an article from USA Today: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-03-20-names-marriage_N.htm

In the US, it is. Where I live, you have to make arrangements when you buy the actual marriage license if you will both have either a hyphenated last name, or if the woman will be keeping her maiden name, or if the man will be taking hers--basically anything out of the ordinary. It is, however, perfectly legal and acceptable. You will need, however, to send a letter explaining the situation to places like the SS Department, as they will expect that the woman is taking the man's name. You will also need to explain to other government entities like Drivers License Division. However, all that's pretty simple to do, and definitely worth the trouble if the man would prefer to have her name. After that, you just need to change your name on all the official stuff--usually a copy of the marriage license is all that's needed for that. In this particular case, you may need a letter from the county clerk or whoever registers marriages explaining the situation so that the transition goes smoothly.

If you are talking about yourself and your girl, congratulations if you plan to marry. I love being married, and highly recommend it ;)

Society has created system to maintain family tree. Everything is possible but you have to follow the system to remain part of this society other wise many orphans live for a name and by changing the track of your roots soon you will be eloped with the confusion. Anyone can start any system but at the end of the day you have to follow one system to keep the spirit of life alive.

Yep... men have done this. A couple will also hypenate their two names and both of them change their name to the hyphenated version.

Good luck.

Yup -- people do it all the time. Or you can take both your names and hyphenate them. Or create a new last name altogether for the both you!

Certainly.

You can give yourself any name you want. But it would cost you. The process is a little more complicated than when the wife changes her name.

Yes...I think it's kind of belittling to a man's ego though!
