Definitely no... And not really. When someone's stated goal is to destroy you, you can't be friends. If someone is abusive, thats a tough one, too.

Yes, my ex & I have remained friends. Our divorce was amicable & we wanted to remain friends for our children's sake & our grandchildren's sake. He's got someone in his life now & I do too. There have been a few times that we have all gotten together with family & new mates, & we had a good time, no one was uncomfortable, & it we all had a great time. Awkward? Not at all, we're mature adults. I guess my situation is rare. After 38 years of marriage, we both still have some happy memories & we don't want the bad times to linger on today or tomorrow. We're also in touch via phone when it's got something to do with our children, their children, & his new mate doesn't have a problem with it, nor does mine.

Nah, tried it for a while.
It is dumb if you broke up there is obviously something about each other you didn't like.
No need to be bitter, you can be FRIENDLY.
But unless we were friends before, we really only need to be acquaintances.
Besides thats just a line people tell you when they dump you to make you feel better.

obviously you have never met my ex-wife. If you had you would know that it is impossible for anyone to be her friend. Her own momma does not like her.
