I acknowledge my bias as a wings fan. But I was watching a game in the playoffs in which it was hinted at that he had that reputation around the league. I had never heard that before. Is that accurate?

I wouldn't call him a dirty player he is one of the most aggravating players to have in front of the net and is a player everyone hates unless hes on your team

I would not consider Tomas Holmstrom a dirty player because he is a tough player who plays the game with heart, which in the old NHL everybody would do, but now people around consider that dirty.

He might take some liberty around the net but he is not a dirty player. He took a shot in the players that cost Pronger a game in the playoffs. Tomas went to the locker room, got stitched up and was back out doing his job.

Not really. He's nowhere like Tomas Sandstrom or, say, a Claude Lemieux. I find Holmstrom parks his *** just outside the crease and takes far more abuse than he ever dishes out. Very underrated player.

I think he threw a few dirty hits early in his career, but he's not dirty by hockey standards. I mean, even the cleanest of players can toss a dirty hit or two. Dirty is Tie Domi, Chris Chelios, Craig Berube, Bob Probert, and people like Simon. Holmstrom just has grit. Grit > Dirt.

Among NHL players, Tomas Holmstrom is considered very dirty, a lot of stick work.

However, if Detroit were to release him, there are 29 other teams that would want a player of his ilk.

Not any more than what is necessary to get the job done in the crease...it's a dirty job in there and Homer has what it takes to get it done...one can get dirty down there without being "cheap" or flagrant....that reputation a good thing to have, he's renting space in their heads before they even face him...it may cause opponents to approach with caution, that's a good thing...ya need to play dirty in the crease, the defense and to goalies sure as hell do. Homer's gotten real adept at hanging in that crease, and no one's gonna move him out.

Ya Holmstroms just gritty. He way piss alot of people off but especially the opposing goalie but he isn't dirty. Hes gritty and just does whatever he can to help his team score and win.

if i recall its more of a rep for flopping and diving then anything some try to say he's dirty cause of flopping onto goalies but they the ones hacking at his legs making him fall. if your hit in back of knee u have natural reaction to fall backwards so not his fault. Then again I'm a wings fans and probably lil biased myself.
