can anyone tell me where I can find instructions on how to make a traditional venetian mask?

And I don't mean going to a craft store and buying a piece of plastic to put feathers and glitter on.

I've bee trying to figure out how to make one for a while, but most traditional artists won't tell anyone their techniques. I can understand why, but then again how are the rest of us to know how?

I've searched google and all I get are places to buy a finished mask or an unfinished mask. I'm curious to know how to make it from scratch...any suggestions?

Go to an art store and find the plaster stuff they make masks from. The bottle/box to see how to prepare for applying it. Generally you will need to apply Vaseline or something to protect your skin (or whoever your model will be). You apply the plaster mixture (don't use regular plaster because it burns your skin) then pop it off and let it dry. Now you can decorate it any way you like. You can also use it as a mold to make more than one rather than needing to apply it to your face again. For making the shorter type (eyes only) you can either apply to the mixture to that area or make a larger one and cut it down to the desired shape.

You can go to one of these sites for ideas on finishing: http://www.venetianmasks.org/index.htm
