My girlfriend and I have been dating for about 2 years now and would like to go ahead and get married. She is from Mexico and has been in the States about 4 years- legally with a Visa I might add. She has heard from some of her friends that it will be very difficult to get married because she is mexican. I want to clear everything up for her and I one way or another. Any information is appreciated and helpful.

My understanding is that her friends are wrong. You can marry whomever you want to, and in Colorado, you don't even have to have your wedding officiated by a religious figure or justice of the peace. Anyone can sign your wedding license as a witness. That's how my wife and I did it...

you just get married
the state that issues the license does not care about legal residency status
that the INS's job
not the state / county's
in this country you are free to marry anyone you want from any country, and the marriage is considered valid in the entire US ( even if you married her in Mexico )
immigration is another matter
VISA eventually expire
and usually student VISA last about 4 years
travel 6 months
so what type of VISA is she on? work?? those too expire?

It is very easy to get married as long as you have a job. The best thing for you to do is to go to an immigration lawyer and pay him about $950 to do the whole thing for you.

I dated a mexican immigrant for a year. Our immigration lawyer assured us that there would be no problem for us to get married.

On our 1st year anniversary I still had not bought her a ring or asked her to marry me. She decided on that day to ask me for a $5,000 loan to give to her mom. I refused to give her that much money and she left my house and went out with her friends that night. That night she went to a bar and an army recruiter gave her his phone number. The next day she was being very hostile to me for not giving her a $5,000 loan and would not listen to the reasons I was giving her for why I wouldnt lend her that much money. I broke up with her as a result. That very night she called that army recruiter up and they were married 2 months later because she got pregnant on purpose. She was also a "legal" immigrant here on a visa that was about to expire.

I have since developed a bad opinion about foreign women that use american men to come to this country. Good luck in your marriage. I'm sure she is not anything like all the other foreign women that use american guys to get citizenship in this country. I'm sure the girl that you are marrying is marrying you because...........you're a good guy? Compared to your Mexican counterpart?

My Mexican girlfriend was the best girl I had ever dated. So even though I know for a fact that she was lying to me the whole time and using me for a greencard I still have a place in my heart for her. However, knowing what I know now, I know it is better that she married him than me, because what is the chances of us having a happy marriage when she was using me the whole time.

Its not difficult at all. Simply apply for a license and get married. The question is are you sure you want to get married after only two years???

as long as she is here legally you will have no problem in getting married just alittle more paper work , if it comes to it go to mexico with her and get married and that will be another route to go just as much paper work. congratulations
