What we did was choose two first and middle boy names and two first and middle girl names for our babies. We did not find out the sex and we did not prename the baby.
It has made a wonderful story for them as they grow. They know the name they might have had. Guess what? They all wrinkle their noses at the other names. You get used to your name. It becomes a part of you.
Never-the-less, I understand the idea of having in your mind what face goes with what name.
Our third son's name choices were Nathanael Robert and Timothy Caleb. Out came this spunky red-head and he just "looked" liked a Timothy. ;)
He still fits that name perfectly.
When our daughter was born, her girl names were Carolyn Jane and Juliann Mabel. We were actually sure she would be a boy so we were already shocked but at least we hadd two girl names to choose from. In her case, she looked like either a Juliann or a Carolyn so my husband stepped in and said, you loved your grandmother, Mabel, dearly so her name is Juliann Mabel. Her name pleased the family and fits her sweet girly disposition to this day.
Not all my children were named this way but I have the comparrison. I will say that it was much easier to name them after the birth and after we saw them by picking from two name sets of which we already approved.

It sounds like you're having kind of an existential crisis masked as a naming problem. What if he doesn't fit all your hopes and dreams for him, and for you? Trust me, he won't. Remember that giving him a name is not the end of the world--if it doesn't fit (if HE thinks it doesn't fit, not if YOU decide it doesn't fit--see how it's no longer about your dreams?), he can change it or give himself a more appropriate nickname. I once saw an obituary titled Steve "Mike" Jones. So there you go. Parents thought he was a Steve; he was more into Mike. Case closed. It wouldn't hurt to think of all the other things that might not fit your ideals (at this moment)--what if he's ill? What if he's gay? What if he's a jerk? How will you handle this? Tough to think about, I know. Easier to think "What if I name him the wrong name?" But still. Life has a way of happening.

When I was born, my mum was originally going to call me Chantelle Mary.
Chantelle, because she loved the name.
Mary, after my Great Aunt.
However when I came out, I didnt look like a Chantelle at all. My face was "too round" for a Chantelle.
So I became Bianca Mary. I dont necessarily like the name Bianca, but heck I wouldnt change it. Bianca is the name given to me when I get in trouble. When my mother uses "that tone". My name is who I am.
And I'm sure that your little boy will love his name, whatever he looks like, no matter what.
All the best.

it's always a little strange sounding at first, using your baby's name, but most times they do look like what you nnamed them. Of course, I have seen some girls with really "cutsey" names that didn't look at all like what their names implied.... that's another story. Isaiah is a great name!

What's an Isaiah supposed to look like anyway? He will fit whatever name you choose... unless youre thinking of something like Tinkerbell....

When your son gets here, he will look just as you want him to look. The thing about "parental vision" is that we see what we want to see in our children, especially when they are infants. You want your son to look like an Isaiah? (I love the name, too, btw). He will, I promise you.

Everyone's name "fits" them. It's weird, but no matter what, the name just seems to work with the person.
Just don't name your kid Jeeves-it's like your asking for him to become a butler or something...I swear.
