By funny symbol i believe you mean arrow
Heres how to fix:

Open Microsoft Word
Go to Tools
Options
Then the View Tab
Go to Formatting Marks
Then Unselect/UnTick Tab Characters and Spaces
You might have to close MS Word and reopen before it takes effect

Hope this Helps

All that is happening is that your hidden characters are showing, i.e. space between words, line breaks, tabs etc. If you look at the right hand side of your toolbar area you will see a backward looking p symbol with a vertical bar after it. It is probably highlighted showing that it is active. Click on it to take the effect off and your symbols will disappear. It is very useful to use when you have typed a document to check that your spacing is consistent etc.

You've got the "show all characters" option active, and symbols for spaces, paragraphs, tabs &c. are seen. Click once on the toolbar button like a P to turn it off

You have some additional "markup" characters being displayed.

In MS Word, go to Tools -> Options, then the View tab. See that section in the middle ("Formatting Marks")? I'm guessing that one or more of those check boxes are selected. Just uncheck them.

I do alot of documentation and I ALWAYS have all of the formatting marks enabled. But that's just me...

Hit the paragraph symbol. What it is doing is showing you hard returns and spaces. I find it really has no purpose if you know what you're doing.

I forget what it's called, but the paragraph symbol resembles a P. Of its not that, try using help to find editing or something like that.

The "funny symbol" that you meantion also appears in the toolbar (it's one of the button). Click the button and it has disable that option.
