Stands of aspen trees often are a series of genetically identical individuals, with each succeeding tree growing from the severed shoot of another tree. Using what you've learned of genetics in this chapter, would you expect one aspen tree in a stand to differ greatly from another in its phenotype? Would you expect each to look exactly like the next in terms of phenotype? Evaluate.

Do your own bloody homework. They're all clones, obviously, but how much phenotypic plasticity is there in aspen?

And for your future reference no one will answer a question if it contains the words, "explain in a minimum of 200 words." It lets us know that you are trying to plagarize.

Moron.

Well, if the plant is growing from the shoot of another tree - it means that this plant is unable to form seeds. This is due to an uneven number of chromosomes (non-disjunction occured at one stage), so therefore planting of this tree is done vegetative.
Now since these plants share the same 'parent', they would all share the same phenotype due to NO variation occurring (this is because of the fact you are unable to form gametes due to uneven number of chromosomes).
There is still a chance that one of the plants that will deprive from the last may be different - this may happen if doubling of chromosomes occured (Polyploidy - chromosomal mutation) - the resulting plant may then be able to form even-numbered haploid gametes (so therefore seeds), and reproduce through this. This results in a new species of this plant as this new 'organism with a new set of chromosomes' will have a differing set that can't interbreed with its parental population.
