Yes. I filed yesterday to obtain a license to carry a concealed weapon. My brother and I are going to do weekly target practices at a local shooting range. He said he wants to make sure I know how to use it properly since I live so close to Hazleton.

There are a number of factors involved here. But up front I have to say that congress has no legal obligation for your personal safety, nor do the police. The person responsible for your safety is YOU! Take the responsibility seriously. While a firearm is certainly a great asset to protecting yourself there is a lot more to it than just buying a gun and packing it around.
A gun is not the one and only answer to every defensive situation so it shouldn't be the only tool in your toolbox. There are many factors involved before you ever get to the point of needing a gun.
Once you do get there, safe gun handling and the ability to punch holes in paper are only the tip of the iceberg. There is little resemblance to what happens when someone is shooting back at you and you are attempting to shoot a living human being.
Carrying a gun for defense is an awesome responsibility and not to be taken lightly. If you make the choice to do this, do make it lightly. Get proper training from a professional instructor and I'm not talking about the little one or two day course you have to take to be able to get your permit.
Carrying a gun regularly is also a royal pain. The bite into you, get heavy and unconfortable and by the end of they day they weigh at least five times as much as when you first put it on. You will most likely have to make changes in the way dress to properly conceal one and you will never find the perfect holster.
In short, you have to be really commiteed to do this. And if you armed, the burden of de-escliating the situaion fall to you since you are the one that has knowledge that a firearm is present. You will have to swallow your ego in any confrontation and walk away if at all possible.
I'm not trying to disswade anyone, I'm just trying to give you a serious idea of what carrying means and how you the law requires you look at things.
Good luck.

I do believe that there will be an increase in legal gun purchases over the next few quarters because of a number of factors including lack of safety feeling that is spreading across America. Americans are not starting to feel safe on their own land because of the constant bombardment of terrorist talk on television and other media. If we start talking about something else, the President will bring us back to it again. They want to pass tougher laws on the American citizens, but fail to pass tougher security measures to protect us. They want to talk about gun control instead of immigration control or national security. They couldn't even support the Hurricane Katrina disaster area. How does the government expect us to believe that they can support us if we had a disaster that was nationwide?

Perhaps more will carry guns in the future, if we continue to fight against those that wish to suppress our right to bear arms.
I exercise my right freely and own a handgun myself. It's been said before that this great right we have has prevented any thoughts of invasion by other countries, because they know that ordinary citizens will take up arms against them too.

The "Right to Carry" movement is alive & well.
It demonstrably decreases violent crime.
The Media Elite refuse to recognize this.
e.g.: Recently a L.I., N. Y. man shot a home invader.
There had been a rash of such incidents, some with violence.
'Fox 5` Marveled that the homeowner hadn't been arrested.
- Talk about spin????????????
