My guess is it was some Chinese noble. Those guys considered the daily creation of verse almost an holy obligation. None-the-less, here is a link to the most prolific writers in history. Maybe you'll be a prolific reader and answer your own question from this site:

That's a very interesting question, but I'm afraid it would be difficult to answer. Many famous poets wrote many poems, but usually tossed them out, actually publishing very few. Some poets write all their lives, others for only a small portion of their lives (I'm in the latter group). I think the point to take from all this is, as already stated by another responder to your question, it's the number of "quality" poems actually published that count. I've written over 1500 poems, but only published a couple dozen, not because I don't think the others are good enough, but usually because I just haven't gotten around to submitting them...why? because I enjoy writing them more than submitting them, and I share them with others on a case by case basis rather than trying to get them published all at once. If you consider I've only been actually writing poems for about a dozen years, you can imagine how many poems have been written by others who have been writing them their entire lives! However, many of these poems were "practice" poems, poems that were done in a specific style as a way to find a voice, a tone, polish an ability, or simply to appreciate others who have written in the style and done far better. They say you never really appreciate music until you try to learn how to play an instrument...the same holds true with any style of poetry; unless you can write a good sonnet, be careful throwing stones at those who try.
So, I hope this little bit of insight helps you put your own efforts into context...great poets are remembered for a handful of poems...so you only need to come up with a handful of great poems to compete with them...just understand you may have to write many more than that before the great ones are found.
...just keep writing

My Mother was Cherokee. I would like to know if there is a record of who has written the most poem s.
Thank You: Cleatus ( Cherokee Lee ) Murdaugh.

The current record holder for most home runs is Henry "hank " aaron, with 755. However, although his record is not counted by the MLB, Sadahru Oh is the wolrd wide Homerun champion with 868 home runs.

All good answers so far...I'd like to hazard a guess based on contemporary poets/poetry that lyn lifshin is a contender for most poems written.

It's not the quantity that matters
it's the quality.
Most poets are only remembered for a handful of poems they've written.
Plus, after you're dead, who cares what the count is?
Do well.

I'm sorry. I just don't think this question has enough merit to answer it. It's probably an unanswerable question anyway. But beyond that, it's just a dumb question.
