Definitely not the 'ultimate currency'. One can respect the forest, or the wishes of others, or oneself. The idea of respect being something that's earned is not well thought out. Respect is something that should be given freely, as a trust...I treat my elders with respect, if I'm at a grocery store, I'll respectfully open the door for a woman. If she doesn't acknowledge me, I lose respect for her.
You, I think are talking about fear. If you know someone can kick your @ss, you tend to show them respect, so they don't. And respect won't buy you schit.

I feel it is hard for some and comes easy for others and some are never respected.

First you have to respect yourself.

In order to respect yourself, you have to conduct your life in a manner that builds respect.

So when they say you have to earn respect, they are saying you have to work at being all you can be to those you love.

If you are thinking that you can buy respect with money.

Money can buy artificial friends. . . . . .the kind that will use you until the money runs out.

If you run out of money, they will drop you like a hot potato.

You can't buy love and you can't buy respect.

You have to have it in your heart and soul.

You have to give in order to receive.

Thanks for the question. It gave me a lot to think about.

Respect cannot be bought.

It is earned.
