Back then, a woman did not have the same rights as men... they were often regarded as property of a man, especially if they were married. Probably, he would have claimed she was his wife (fiance being close enough) and that she was deluded and confused from her time in the water... and, probably, the crew of the rescuing ship would have made sure she stayed with her "husband." It would be like having one less person - rescuee - to have to deal with.

Hi John:

I think that he was searching for her as he saw her as his property - he did not love her, but having her was to boost his ego as the all powerful and dominant male. She, by having loved another, had insulted this ego and he was, quite frankly, going to make her pay for that insult. So yes, he probably would have forced her into marriage and an unpleasant future as revenge.

He was looking for his possessions, his fiance and his necklace, she was better off not having him find her, that was the point of the film, she lived a glorious and adventurous life because she didn't do what was only something her mother wanted.

No. Probably just grab her by the arm, jerk her out of her chair and drag her back to first class - while making her cough up the diamond.

He would have found her, beat the hell out of her and then she would have been his bird in the gilded cage for the rest of her life

He probably would have stalked her and tried to make her go back with him and be the dutiful wife.
