I applied somewhere, and they need to do a drug test first before hiring me... is it illegal for them to test for pregnancy also?

Yes, assuming they could use the sample you gave them for both purposes, it would be illegal.

First, you have to consent to any medical test. If you consent to a drug test in order to get a job, but did not consent to a pregnancy test, no one has the right to do one.

Second, in every state I know of, it is illegal to discriminate in employment based on whether or not you are pregnant. Denying you a job based on a secret pregnancy test would be a very big no-no.

YES... they are 2 different tests... & in which state are you not allowed to get pregnant? You mean pregnancies don't happen by accident?? ;-)

Unless you promise them that you won't become pregnant during, say the first 6 months of your job, no one has any rights to enforce a pregnancy test on you for the job.

Yes it's illegal, But they just test for drugs so you don't have anything to worry about.

Always read what you sign....it should specifically state what the test is for....no they normally do not test for anything but drugs and alcohol...some labs are Forensic labs now, and the test that they use can automatically determine other things. They hand the employer only the required information nothing more....maybe check your state laws.

Most clinics that do the drug testing do not have the ability to test for pregnancy. They serve a niche market of testing for drugs.

they aren't testing for pregnancy, they are testing for drugs. and if they do...it's probably not legal.

I don't think they would bother checking, but if they did and didn't hire you because of that, then I would think you could get them in court.
