on their own, or just lazy, or what? I just don't get it! If I were a parent of adult kids that wanted to move back home or who were still living at home, I would say that I hadn't done my job right! In nature little birds grow up and WANT to leave the nest. Growing up and moving out should be more of an instinct with humans, as well. So...what gives?

Or perhaps parent can't handle living alone?.. My mother has had 2 surgeries in 2 years.. she can not take care of the house or her dogs.. she also can use help with bills.. I have no interest in living alone.. but I lived with roomates.. I'm using the time that I am here to try to get some debt issues resolved (dealing with a few of those roomates who stopped paying bills..grr) hopefully get into the school I want.. and then I'll move out.. somewhere nearby because it doesn't help her if I leave... Sometimes life doesn't allow the adult child to leave.. I'd love to be in a house.. of course I'd love a girlfriend as well.. and I don't have that either.. I was out when I could get out.. then came back when she needed me.. Sometimes it's not about being LAZY.. or free rent.. (I do pay). I do alot of the work.. including anything that requires lifting, moving, carrying.. yard work.. ANYTHING dealing with the dogs.. It's a trade off .. When I figure out a way to help her but not live here I will do it..

I'm one of those adults [18] and quite frankly Im just enjoying the free rent, essentially everything that comes with it. Ill move out either when Im 25 or when my parents die. [which I hope never happens, lol]

That's a cultural thing. In many societies men never move out from home. They marry and take over the household.

Don't be myopic.

it depends on the situation

if they live with their parents and dont help with the bills and dont work, I would say they are just plain lazy and the parents are at fault at this.
if they do help with the bills and work, I would say they are afraid to be on their own and not be able to make it
