Rebooting the computer will clear the memory. Memory is volatile meaning that it requires power to maintain the stored information.

A hard drive is non-volatile which does not require a maintained power supply to keep stored information. So if you want to wipe out all the information on the hard drive, you need to use a disk wiper such as Kill Disk (using this will completely wipe your system clean of any information including your operating system).

Get a program like Killdisk.
" Booting KillDisk for DOS from Floppy for Free version

1. Prepare and insert a bootable floppy disk.
2. Click here to start the download. This link downloads a zip archive file with the Free version of KillDisk.
3. When the download window appears, unzip and save the executable to the floppy drive.

or use the 1 step Bootable Floppy Creation

Download and run the Bootable Floppy Disk Creator for Active@ KillDisk (click the link). It already contains all necessary files."

to wipe out the memory on a computer u need a cd called the boot cd it should have with the computer

But if you don't you could gett on from a friend, but he needs to have a compaq computerthen you follow the step by step instructions of the cd

and then when u get to a window talking about the "partitions" then you you cilck then partition you have and wipe all its memory then the computer reinstalls windows and eveything is like new

the other way you could do is buy a new hard drive and install it ( on the steps i would just go online and find step by step instructions) , but then you would have to install xp or vista oln it . you either have too buy the operating system cd or get it from a friend

Memory dump= turning off computer and removing ram from its slots put them back in about 10 minutes or longer to make sure they've discharged. By wipe out you mean low level format. Look at your hard drive and get the make and model number from it. Go to the hard drives mfgrs web site and down load their soft ware utilities; their FREE copy them to 31/2 floppy Set 31/2 floppy to boot 1st in bios boot order then shut down Install 31/2 floppy in A: and boot .Low Level format the drive Done No data whatso ever exists on the drive!

if you want to clear erase your hard drive.. everything everyone else is saying takes more than 15 seconds, and for me, thats annoying.

go to

1- start
2- run
3- cmd
4- type in format C:/ (or your primary hard drive that has the OS)

AND THATS IT. you dont need a boot cd or an installation disk just to wipe a hard drive clean...
