I am a student and am thinking of getting a laptop. 1st priority is price, 2nd priority is weight - I do a lot of moving, and 3rd priority is monitor size - I want something that can be open in a lecture hall if needs be. I don't care about DVD's or burning CD's but would like to listen to music, and if possible - write on the screen like a piece of paper for my chemistry classes. I also don't care about being able to play games.
When I search on my own, I don't know the lingo, so if you have any suggestions with a specific model number that worked great for you, please provide so I can look up your identical laptop. That would be the most helpful.
I just don't know what to get! Or how much I really have to pay! Or what "accessories" I really need! Any info would be appreciated!

Krystie, I am using my very first laptop (very 1st computer at all).
I have an Apple Macbook. I talked to a lot of people before I made my decision. Money was a big issue, but I spent a bit more because it was cheaper in the long run.
I was told by everyone that it's the easiest to learn.
It never has problems with viruses, unlike pc's do.
It is very lightweight. Even I can pick it up, & I have a disability where my muscles are weak.
It's easy to use in a lecture hall. My pastor teaches a class at a college, & she said it looks like a sea of white laptops.
It has built-in speakers, and you can listen to the radio on iTunes. That's an icon at the bottom of the screen that you just click on.
It has a built-in camera, so you can talk to anyone without a phone and see each other, as long as they have a camera.
The Macbook is white.
The monitor is 13 inches. It's still easy to read. But if something is too small to read, you can make it larger real easy.
You can set it up so that you can talk to it and tell it what to do!! Like "Get my mail."
If you drop it or damage it in any way, getting it repaired is really easy. You can bring it in to the store & they will fix it.
There are 3 Macbooks, at 3 different prices. Each one has different amounts of memory. Even the cheapest one will hold tons of stuff, unless you download a bunch of movies.
1) $1,099. is 60 Gigabytes memory in hard drive.
2) $1,299. is 80....
3) $1,499. is 120....
I bought the second one with 80 Gigabytes. That's because my husband & I had Apple split the computer up so that we each have our own "side."
I can't think of anything else right now, except that I LOVE it.
Apple also has what they call the Macbook Pro. I don't think you'd be interested in that one. It's more money, bigger & heavier, and doesn't really have anything more that you would miss with the Macbook
You don't need to know any model number or anything. It's simply called the Macbook.
Well, good luck with whatever you get. I really do recommend the Macbook, and they're not paying me any money to say all this :)

E-mail me if you need more help in picking a laptop (tell me what you need it for and what your expecting to do with it and your budget) I'll point you in the right direction. You need more careful analysis of the laptop than just asking on here.
PS: Google "Tablet PC"
Toshiba, FUJITSU, and Levono are the best if you want a Tablet. I own an IBM

if you want to 'write on the screen', you are looking for a tablet PC. the only one i have used is an HP TC4200, its quite light, 14.1" screen and very powerful. all tablet PCs are expensive though.. otherwise you could just choose whatever looks good. since you dont intend to play games on it... almost nething is good lol
