When you are married, have kids and are no longer a "spring chicken"...then yes it's a valid excuse.

The only people that don't think that it's a valid excuse are the ones that are young and are not married with children and not going in a million directions at once.

Well, I had an operation and it's made me lose a lot of my short term memory, so I have a good excuse for being forgetful.

But there are ways to cope with being forgetful. I write more things down, I set appointments with alarms that go off an hour before in my phone, I ask friends to remind me of important dates.

It's not a fun way to live, and I've lost friends over it. There's a difference between being forgetful and being thoughtless.

Nope. Not when there are palm pilots, cell phones that can be programmed to give reminders, calendars both electronic and paper, day planners and good old fashioned paper and pencils in abundance. You have no excuse. Write it down in one of the media I mentioned.

When a person has a genuine memory problem, it is NOT an excuse but an explanation!
