and is uncomfortably constipated... Is this normal and what are some safe remedies that won't interfere with the whole "trying" process. What other things should be avoided at this time??

It is the iron in the prenatal vitamins that are causing her to be constipated. There is a natural laxative and stool softener called senocot that will relieve the constipation and is ok to take while trying to conceive and is also ok to take if you are pregnant too.

Pre-Natal Vitamins can do that to you. Have her take a fiber capsul BEFORE she takes the Pre-Natal Vitamin (about 30 mins to an hour before). "Fiber Choice" brand is really good - the chewables taste good and have more fiber in them than other fiber supplements. If one of the Fiber Choice supplements doesn't work, bump it up to two. Everyone's body reacts differently, so it's trial and error at the beginning.

This is pretty common with prenatals. It is caused by the high level of iron in the vitamins.
The best thing she could do wwould be to switch to a vitamin that contains a stool softener. Some of the brands that include a stool softener include Prenate Elite, Prenate Advance.

this is pretty common she really need to eat more fiber and ask dr if there is another brand that would not make her so constipated. I actually had to take the Flintstones during my last 3 pregnancy because regular prenatal vitamins made me so uncomfortable my Dr told me to take Flintstones

You can ask your dr. to switch to a different kind. I know they have some that have less iron in them... because a lot of times the pre-nates cause pregnant women to have even worse morning sickness... and I think they have a few different ones that they can change you to that might be easier on your digestive tract. Good Luck.

lots of fiber and stool softners since her vitamins might not contain them. It is normal for prenatals to cause constipation because of the iron.
