Keeping in mind that a large amount of H2SO4 has leaked into a freshwater environment (pond) harbouring plant and animal life. The result must ideally be a Precipitation Reaction.

I think the best thing for the enviroment would be more like NaHCO3. Putting a strong caustic base like sodium hydroxide would not be a great idea. calcium hydroxide would be a nother good idea since calcium sulfate would be practically unsoluble where sodium hydrogen sulfate would be.

use any base to neutralize the acid content.
for e.g. ammonium, Sodium hydroxides.
you should check the acidity content of the H2SO4 before you add the base in order to make the pH content of the pond = 7.0!!

You can use Lime ( CaO ), or Sodium Carbonate because these materials are easy to handle and cheaper
