What is the best student laptop? Any brand, operating system, or whatever. Also, must have a microphone plug in.

come on man, 500 is not gonna buy you any good laptop, it will get you a used piece of junk, spend the extra 300 bucks and get a good one with a core 2 duo processor, youll be thanking yourself after a year when your old p.o.s laptop craps out on you

I do not know one under $500 but why not go for a quality machine that will last you many years try a macbook
Emachine might have a cheap model though

check current sales at BestBuy, CompUSA, etc.
'best' and 'student' do not go together in the computing world.
