IS IT POSSIBLE THESE CARS CAN BE HOTWIRED?
OR...COULD THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAVE HAD A KEY AND STOLEN BACK THE CAR?

All things are possible. The previous owner could have done it, or any thief that has access to the VIN number and the key code book could cut a key and steal it. The new cars are harder to hot wire, but it can be done.

No way to tell for sure. I just hope that your cousin had insurance on the ride.

you can hotwire anything, but the steering lock is another thing, the previous owner could have a key, and new vehicles have a computer chip in the key anyways, this is another theft deterrent , the only way to hotwire something with a computer chip and a steering lock is to break the steering colum

It doesn't seem to matter WHAT kind of anti-theft device is installed or designed into a car, the thieves always invent ways to get around them. Escalades are no exception.
