I haven't seen or heard from my father since I was eight and that was for about 5 minutes so I don't know the man.

I don't have an answer, but I think you should first contact the government agencies that handle child support collections in both Ohio and Michigan and try to get an answer from them. They would probably have the answer. If one state can't help you collect, perhaps the other will. I'm sure he is collecting a pension that can be garnished.

I would think that you could sue him for it, but it might be an issue with the courts if he can say that you didn't actively pursue him to pay it or if there was never a court order for child support. You'll have a tough time if there was never a court order and you never tried to get one.

You can try to sue for just about anything, but that doesn't mean you'll win. In the meantime, you'll turn your life into a real mess for at least 2-3 years. You're an adult; move on and take care of yourself.

If there was never a child support order in place, there’s nothing you can do now. If there was a child support order in place, then *your mother* can sue for the back support that he owes *her* (he doesn’t owe it to you). And no, you can't sue him for 'suffering'.

You can sue, but the money would go to her. Child support is supposed to pay the bills, and the custodial parent is the one who did this.

i dont know what is your relation with your father but if you think that going after him like that will make it better on yourself, you are wrong. not paying child support isn't right but i think you should talk with your mother or definitely him about that. i am sure you will get more out of him with a sensible "adult" talk than by suing him.

It was your mothers place to go after him if she knew where he worked. She could have had the state garnish his wages.

No, only your mother can sue him since she is the one owed the money, not you.
