I have a HP Compaq, pre-made and such.
I have one really annoying question, I have a 24pin socket on the motherboard for power but it came with a 20pin connector in that socket when I got it, it does work, so it obviously is doing its job.
I have a better psu than the one that came with it on order, and that has a "20+4pin" connection for both types of motherboards.
When it comes and I install it should I use the 24pin connection or should I just plugin the 20pin connector.

And what do the extra 4 pins do in these motherboard power sockets anyway?

Thanks,

Daniel

If its a 24 pin connector on the Mobo, then put the 20 + 4 into it. It was obviously made to be used for 24 pins.

Connect all 24 pins to the Motherboard. It'll supply more power to the Motherboard.

yes you should use the extra sockets. the extra pins are there to give more power for stata, drives graphics cards. and other hardware, like E PCI cards plus extra cooling fans
