Obviously it is not a criminal offence. But in case if you are willing to go back to Dubai once again then it would be not easy for you. You cannot able to apply for a visit/residence or work visa until you cancel the existing one whether it is valid or not. In other words you have to cancel the existing residence permit physically before applying a new visa for Dubai.

If u have not served a notice to your employer for resigning and just left the job then there are bright chances that ur employer must have reported this to the authorities and this is a criminal offence because u have neither served the notice period nor paid the salary for the period. Most probably u must have been banned in UAE.
Therefore get this checked thorughly or u might end up behind bars.
