The air is not as clear as you think. The light is reflecting off of dust particles in the air. If you were to shine that light while on the moon, it wouldn't have the same effect.

The light from the Luxor does hit something - the air. While there may be very little pollution in Vegas, there is still air (oxygen, nitrogen, and other gases) and that is made up of molecules of elements and compounds.
If the Luxor was in outer space, we wouldn't see the beam of light the way we do on Earth, we would only see the lit peak of the building (because the light strikes our eyes and registers).

Inside the Luxor's top, there are a lot of powerful lights and huge mirrors to bounce the light off of. Also in Vegas the air in very polluted.

I saw a show on the history channel about this. They said, "The Luxor light is a very powerful beam of light, But light can only be shown if it reflects off something, So it hardly does it justice" Something like that they said. Then they said " The other problem is when airplanes fly over the beam, for it blinds the pilots" Lol, that is funny right? I thought so.

easy would not come into view until eventually it enters the attention and stimulates the cells in the retina. once you 'see' a torch beam, that's with the aid of fact easy has bounced ('scattered') off dirt debris or liquid droplets, and a number of the scattered easy is going in direction of and enters your eyes. in case you place some dirt or droplets in a laser beam, the comparable factor happens after which you would be able to 'see' the laser beam in the comparable way as you will discover the torch beam. .

Wow, thanks, now I feel like a foreigner (which might not be such a bad thing considering that Bush leads America). I was born and raised in America and I have to ask...
What the heck is the Luxor???

it's bouncing off the air and heading to your eye. it's so bright that even if just a little does that, you can see it.
